Fantine is in a bad place and sings about how tough life has been on her. The poignant ballad is one of the most heartful songs around and our orchestra will embrace it as its centerpiece.
If I only had a brain
When Dorothy comes across her 3 sidekicks on the yellow brick road, she notices something is missing for each one of them. Here’s a clip from a talent search show, featuring a young Sophie Evans, now a West End superstar.
Another op’ning, another show
This sensational number from “Kiss me kate” was composed by one of Tin Pan Alley’s most prolific contributor, Cole Porter. It’s quite what we call a “burner” due to its fast tempo and ever going syncopations. Rest assured, we’ll practice it slowly, at first!
My favourite things
Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, you know how it goes. However, what most people don’t know is that the Rogers and Hammerstain hit for “Sound of Music” was used by Jazz saxophonist legend John Coltrane to display his virtuosity for extremely long renditions, somethimes up to 45 minutes!
