Xmas 2023 – Christmastime is here

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, isn’t it? We’ve got a brand new series of Christmas carols in the bag, some new Jazzy tunes and more Classical offerings to wrap up the year in style!

The Cold Song

Premiered in the late 17th century by arguably the most prolific English composer, Henry Purcell (on the top right of our poster), “What power are thou?” more commonly known as the “Cold song” is from the opera “King Arthur”. Featured in the Netflix show “The crown” and a variety of movies, the tune was revamped in 1981 by German artist Klaus Nomi whose robotic moves and make-up became an overnight sensation.

Arabian Dance

One of the many dances featured in “The nutcracker”, the “arabian dance” is based on a repetitive motif (ostinato) on which the orchestral builds the melodies.

Winter from “The four seasons”

The other composer on the left of the poster, is no other than Antonio Vivaldi who will make his first appearance too in our hall of fame! We may have a look at the first movement if we’re feeling brave but it’s the second movement really that we ar looking at!

Traditional carols & Jazzy Xmas tunes

Although we have the likes of “O Christmas Tree”, “In the bleak midwinter” in the pad, yours truly will be busy arranging more carols for the occasion. So new Jazzy numbers too will make their entry:
