Pirates of Penzance overture
This comic opera by Gilbert & Sullivan premiered in New York in 1879 and has since remained a success. The overure is a massive medley of all the main songs as featured below in this home orchestra recorded during Covid.
Never smile at a Crocodile (the Tick-tock Croc)
Composed by Frank Churchill (already a Disney legend with his songs for Snow white, Bambi and Dumbo), the tune was used as an instrumental for “Peter Pan” and only got recorded with lyrics after the movie was launched. Jerry Lewis even got a hit with it but we prefer this version…
The Mandalorian
The Star Wars universe is full of pirates and bounty hunters, searching the galaxy for credits and items. For once, John Williams wasn’t on duty and we have to thank Ludwig Göransson from Sweden for his great score, here played by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. It looks like recorders are going to steal the show for the second time in a row!
Pirates of the Caribbean
Hard to have a pirates edition and not include the succesful franchise. We will recreate the adventures of Jack Sparrow with “He’s a pirate”, once again using footage from the DNSO.
Anitra’s Dance
Grieg’s suite for the ballet Peer Gynt is more know for the “Hall of the mountain king” but we’ll use the gracious theme of “Anitra’s dance”, the daughter of a Bedouin chief who steals the hero’s money….
Poor Unfortunate Souls
One of the hits from Disney’s adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” in 1999, here rendered with absolute brio and swagger by American Brodway actor Drew Sarich accompanied by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchester, is the turning point ot the story where evil witch Ursula persuades Ariel to give her voice in exchange of a human form.
